In 12 weeks of community medicine postings, 2 weeks of postings should be in RNTCP cell of the respective medical colleges, wherein they will be learning counselling of Patients,categorization of patients,smear preparation,home visits to NSP patients,default retrieval,chemoprophylaxis and cross referrals.

Internship used to be the stage where in graduates will acquire clinical skills and perform procedures. unfortunately the system post graduate entrance exam has taken toll on the Internship.Most of the present day graduates dont take up internship seriously. from the day1 they want to prepare for entrance exams.
From my point of you, internship is self learning phase. You can learn or acquire the clinical skill from your senior and your teachers.
You can apply your theory knowledge in to practices or in real world.
So, it should be one and half year compulsory, one year in urban area and six months in rural area.
